The blocky, near-textureless foes from the original become nightmarish abominations straight out of The Thing. The armor of fallen knights glints and shines in the sunlight as you traverse blood-spattered streets.
Bluepoint’s Demon’s Souls remake is almost the same exact game that released in 2009 in terms of core gameplay. Movement is a bit more precise and it’s not as rough around the edges, but for the most part, the gameplay is the same. Demon’s Souls players create a character and are immediately thrust into an unforgiving, bleak world where everything is out to kill them and death has severe, lasting consequences.
Leave the tower through the near platform and jump to another one where you will find Yurt, the Silent Chief trapped in a cell. Enter the fog, go up, kill the cultists to break the first chain. Keep moving through the ledge fighting Gold Skeletons, you will reach the third Fog Door. Now go back to the building and take the left path, go up through the stairs and take the exit to the right. The Royalty class is often referred to as Demon’s Souls “easy mode,” because it starts you off with a strong ranged spell (Soul Arrow) and a ring that slowly regenerates your magic points. Retooling and improving animations can be a tricky prospect, especially for a game like Demon’s Souls where players enjoy the specific way that combat feels. Thankfully Bluepoint Games was able to update these animations without them drastically affected the feel or cadence of combat in a detrimental way. They knew that they were in charge of bringing the game into 2020 and not changing the fundamental things that made Demon’s Souls the cult hit that it was back on the PS3 when it was released in 2009. The remake has remedied this issue and implemented a character creator worthy of even the greatest RPG.
The PS5 remake of Demon’s Souls is, in the ways that matter most, the best version of the game, but that still leaves us with the question of why you should care about Demon’s Souls in the first place. You don’t walk away from a game like Demon’s Souls without a few good stories to share. When I think back on my time with the PS5 remake, two moments that occurred fairly early on in the game spring to mind.

A lot of weapons can be obtained early on, more so if a player happens to have pre-ordered the game. Among the most well-known features of the game are its unique and challenging bosses which test players to their limits.
Some would consider this game a much more tamed version of a hack-and-slash since the attacks are slower than usual. Each swing must be perfectly timed to hit a target; otherwise, it will leave the player vulnerable to incoming attacks. Fortunately, the PlayStation 5 remake feels more responsive than the original version. In addition to a world full of demons, some jerks have left traps all over Boletaria. Watch out for hidden switches, enemies hiding behind walls, and bottomless pits. If you’re visiting an area for the first time, observe bloodstains to see how other players died, and take heed from messages scrawled on the ground.
